Our objects are shaped by material research.

PoraStudio works with 3D-printed porous ceramics that can absorb water and gradually release moisture into the surrounding space. This behaviour is not only a material quality, it is something we test, measure and develop.

In cooperation with the Czech Academy of Sciences in Brno and UCEEB CVUT, we tested the permeability and moisture behaviour of our ceramic materials. Based on these measurements, we developed a calculation tool that helps us estimate how much active ceramic surface is needed for a specific room in order to humidify the air.

This allows us to design ceramic objects and interior systems with greater precision. The size, porosity, surface area and placement of the ceramic can be considered in relation to the space where it will be used.

Under a microscope, ceramic appears as a landscape of printed layers, pores, minerals and traces of the making process. These details influence how the material prints, how stable it is, how much water it can absorb and how gradually it releases moisture back into the air.

Our research focuses on porosity, strength, surface area and print stability. The aim is not to make the most porous ceramic possible, but to develop a material that works reliably as part of an interior environment.

For PoraStudio, ceramic is an active material designed to work with water, air and space to increase the quality of indoor space.
